The Summit of the Three Seas Initiative

the summit of the three seas initiative According to the participants in Three Seas Initiative Summit held in Bucharest, the event was a success.

The Summit of the Three Seas Initiative, the forum of the 12 European Union countries located between the Baltic Sea, the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea, hosted by Bucharest, was a success, yielding tangible results, said after the meeting the president of Romania Klaus Iohannis:

"The most important result was probably the expression of the participants' political support for a regional list of priority interconnection projects, in the fields of energy, transport and digital technology, a list that was drawn up based on the contributions of the countries that are part of the initiative, Romania included. The selection of these projects was done against criteria such as regional impact, economic feasibility and compatibility with the EU priorities and policies."

In a joint declaration, the participants pledge to channel political support towards these priority projects and call on companies and financial institutions to work together in order to render the implementation of such projects more rapid. Business communities in the member countries can implement joint projects worth billions of Euros, said at the forum the Chairman of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mihai Daraban. The Three Seas Initiative supports the EU's common goal of getting the East and the West of the continent closer, said the European Commissioner for Regional Development Corina Cretu:

"This is an extremely relevant and legitimate initiative, which helps regional development and enhances cohesion at EU level. An initiative than can provide both prosperity and security for the member countries. That is why I would like to thank all the participant countries for their pro-active approach and for their determination to boost economic development and connectivity, which in turn strengthen European convergence. To the European Commission, this summit is a unique opportunity to reiterate how important connectivity between Central and Eastern Europe is, be it in the energy sector, in transportation or in the field of digital technology."

A special guest at the summit in Bucharest was the US Energy Secretary Rick Perry, who stated that Europe can count on the US as a trustworthy partner in the energy field, saying, we quote, that "energy security is tantamount to national security". Attracting fresh US investment in Central and Eastern Europe is, in fact, one of the declared goals of the states in the region. At the White House, president Donald Trump reaffirmed the US's strong support for the Three Seas Initiative and its interest in boosting trade exchanges with Europe.
