Romania’s medal tally at the recently held European Senior Weightlifting Championships in Bucharest counted 26 medals, of which 9 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze. The European champions are Elena Ramona Andries, in the 48-kilogram category and Loredana Toma, in the 63-kilogram category in the women’s competition and Nicolae Onica, in the 94-kilogram category in the men’s competition.
Now it’s news from boxing. The Romanian pugilist Robert Jitaru walked away with gold in the 56-kilogram category at the Under-22 European Boxing Championships hosted by the southern Romanian town of Targu Jiu. Jitaru secured a win on points in the final he fought against Azeri contender Tayfur Aliev. In the 81-kilogram category, Alberto Biro won the bronze medal.
In the women’s competition Romania’s representatives walked away with silver medals, as in the 57-kg category Cristina Cosma sustained a defeat by Italy’s Irma Testa, while in plus 81-kg category, Hungary’s Adrienn Juhasz secured a win on points against Alina Gabriela Ene. Romania’s medal record at this year’s Boxing Championships counted four medals, of which one gold, two silver and one bronze.
In the final of Romania’s national ice hockey championship, games 3 and 4 were played, pitting Corona Brasov against SC Miercurea Ciuc. On Saturday after extra time, Corona Brasov grabbed a 2-1 win, while on Sunday, SC Miercurea Ciuc trounced their opponents, 10-1. On aggregate, SC Miercurea Ciuc has a 3-1 advantage over Corona Brasov.
We go out with news from football. Matches counting towards group 1 of Romanian League One’s 3rd round were played at the weekend. On Sunday, Universitatea Craiova held CFR Cluj to a blank draw. On Sunday, Astra Giurgiu sustained a nil-2 home defeat against Viitorul Constanta, while FCSB secured a 1-nil win against CSMS Iasi. In the as-it-stands table, FCSB have 35 points, CFR Cluj are the runner up team, also with 35 points, while 3rd placed are Universitatea Craiova, with 31 points on their record sheet. Group 2 matches of the 3rd round on Friday saw Concordia Chiajna holding FC Botosani to a blank draw and FC Voluntari sustaining a 1-2 home defeat by Gaz Metan Medias.
